DigitallyU™ is a Windows® based software application that provides students and professionals an easy way to assemble a digital life portfolio of achievements and experiences using multimedia. You can launch a Web site with DigitallyU or just show your portfolio in a presentation. Use it to impress college admissions officials or potential employers. You don’t need any technical expertise. You can even create an interactive family album with DigitallyU.

What is the primary benefit of building a portfolio using DigitallyU? top
DigitallyU shows proof of performance. It shows real world skills and what you've accomplished, not just what you know. Admissions officers and employers look for a 360-degree holistic view of applicants versus just test scores. DigitallyU shows what you can do; not just what you know.
What do I need before I build a DigitallyU portfolio? top
You need a digital camera, a PC running Windows, DigitallyU software, and your digital content.
What should I think about before I build my DigitallyU portfolio? top
Think of your DigitallyU portfolio as a documentary or digital story about you. You have accomplishments that words cannot describe. Your achievements are multifaceted and meant to be showcased using multimedia. Look how online news organizations broadcast breaking news and feature stories. DigitallyU provides the means for you to broadcast your story as good as any online news organization. DigitallyU is designed to encourage your creativity so you can determine what's newsworthy about you for your targeted audience.
What type of content should I gather for my DigitallyU portfolio? top
You might have some media content to start now. That content might include photos, video, audio and documents that show evidence of some of your academic or professional projects and evidence of extracurricular activities. You might also have combinations of video, audio, photographs or documents that show musical composition and/or performance, athletic performance, artistic works, performing arts, journalistic-style broadcasts, multiple school projects, oratory skills, and the like. You might even have some testimonial videos from people who talk about your character and talent.
How do I put my media into my DigitallyU portfolio? top
You just drop your media into your portfolio just like you attach files to an email. We also provide animated demonstrations of all DigitallyU functions in our "Help" module.
What types of media can I put in my portfolio? top
DigitallyU accepts your JPEG photo files, mp3 audio files, MS Word® or PDF® documents, and digital video.
What is JPEG? top
Short for Joint Photographic Experts Group, and pronounced jay-peg. The JPEG format reduces (compresses) your photo file sizes to about 5% of their normal size. Most photos taken with a digital camera are in JPEG format. This is good because you can copy your photos directly from your camera into your DigitallyU portfolio.
What is mp3 audio? top
The name MP3 stands for Mpeg 1 Audio Layer 3. But you don’t have to worry about that techno-speak. You’ll record your mp3 audio narratives to accompany your photos or slideshows to advance your story. DigitallyU automatically recognizes the mp3 audio files so you can just drop it in. Many Windows PCs come equipped with basic audio recording capability.
Can I put music into my portfolio? top
Published music is protected under federal copyright laws. You must first get permission from the copyright owner to place copyrighted works in your portfolio. Similar laws apply to images and other content.
How do I make my video play in DigitallyU? top
There are three steps. First step: shoot your video with a digital camera. Second step: copy the video on to your computer. Third step: convert (encode) your video to run in DigitallyU. The encoder is inside DigitallyU. You'll see it when you open the software. We also provide animated demonstrations of how to do all this in our software. What will my DigitallyU portfolio look like when I complete it? top
You will have twenty (20) Web site/presentation designs to choose from. You can preview what your portfolio will look like on the Web or in a presentation by clicking on one of the designs and immediately you’ll be able to determine which design suits you.
Can I create more than one portfolio for different audiences? top
Yes. DigitallyU allows you to create multiple portfolios for different target audiences.
Is it easy to launch a Web site with my DigitallyU portfolio? top
Yes. Once you complete your portfolio and export it, you click on the "Publish" button and fill in only three units of information. First-your domain name. Second-your user name. Third-your password recognized by your Internet service provider. This process is illustrated nicely in our animated Help section.
What does "exporting" my portfolio mean? top
When you put your media content into your DigitallyU portfolio you must export it before you launch your Web site. Exporting is an automatic internal DigitallyU function that’s triggered when you click on one button - "Export". The Export button pushes all your content like a plunger into your MyDocuments folder. In your MyDocuments folder you’ll see your entire DigitallyU portfolio waiting for you to either; a)copy your Web site folders to your Web space and launch your site; or b.)click on the index.htm file just to give a presentation if you don’t want to use the Web.
What do I do with my portfolio after I build it and put it on the Web? top
Once you publish your DigitallyU portfolio on the Web you can send your link via email to an admissions officer, coaches, faculty, or prospective employers. You can also place your Web link on your application for admission. For an interview you can walk in with your DigitallyU portfolio on a flash disk or CD and present it face-to-face.
When I buy DigitallyU do I get free Web space to launch my Web site? top
No. DigitallyU is a software application that allows you to build a Web site and launch it, or give a face-to-face presentation. You provide your Web space. You don’t need Web space to build your portfolio because DigitallyU allows you to present your portfolio in person.
